Volunteering and Chinese Calligraphy

Author: Caroline R.
Location: Beijing
This morning we split into three groups: two people went to the market/cooked, some went to the baby home, and some worked with the younger group home children. The baby home volunteers got to experience "bath day" at the home, while the volunteers with the group home children got to walk to a local park. The group home children were very happy to go to the park, and especially to ride on an amusement park type train. We came back to the apartment for a lunch of spaghetti, then Brent taught us about Chinese language before a lesson in calligraphy. Ben had a natural talent for calligraphy, and enjoyed the taste of the ink. Callie and Caroline went to the baby home in the afternoon, and enjoyed extra laughs with the babies. We had our Lifeworks forum before dinner, and discussed what community service means to us. We went to our usual restaurant tonight, and enjoyed competitive eating and humerous conversation.
