Back in Beijing

This morning at 6:30 the Lifeworkers' train reached its final destination in Beijing. We left Beijing for Xi'an (a fourteen hour train ride) this past Friday night and arrived Saturday morning to start sightseeing. When we arrived, some of the lifeworkers managed to get the the train station without their tickets while the rest of the group tried to move at the crowd's pace. After finding everyone, we rode in a bus for an hour to get to the compound and an hour later at 9:30 some went to the babies. Some of the group got massages while some went to the grocery store to stock up on snacks. After our lunch of mac and cheese, we went to the older Group Home where it was Kayla's thirteenth birthday! We sang Happy Birthday in Mandarin, Spanish, and English! Kayla had a great birthday! She got gifts of hair clips, stickers, and what she really wanted- a Japanese fan that one Lifeworker had purchased at an earlier date for the kids. Our afternoon trip was to a studio where we learned Chinese brush painting. Some were imaginative and drew cherries and different animals or friends of theirs; while others painted beautiful bowls of grapes, morning glories, and bamboo. We went to the usual Beijing restaurant. I think we call it Suzie's House of Harmony and Peace. After our filling dinner we had a discussion on expectations and goals. Now, we are just lounging around and preparing for our full day tomorrow. We're taking the older kids to the zoo!
