Midnight Train to Xi'an

Author: Leah F
Location: Beijing to Xi'an
Today was unlike all other days. Instead of working our children shifts and then going on a tour of Beijing, we instead did our shifts and hopped a train to Xian. This wasn't just any train ride - it was a 14 hour long adventure! Full of card games, snacking, and talking, we were able to amuse ourselves. We walked onto the train in amazement wondering how we were going to spend such a long time on a train filled with "3 bunk" bunk beds and squatter toilets. We all proved resilient and made the best out of the experience while managing to have a good time. In any case, the rest of the train car knew we were on board! Dani amused onlookers by walking down the aisle and grooving along to "Sweet Caroline" while Bed also danced to his own music (all in a game of truth or dare, of course). Callie read Harry Potter in a British accent to a drowsy Sam while Thomas, Gabriella, and others engaged in the "Harry Potter Game" - a game set to the same rules of the geography game where the last letter of a term of Harry Potter had to correspond to another term's first letter. Megan, Caroline, Gabriella, Jess, and I avidly watched Beauty and the Beast, while Ben, Morgan, and others played a rousing game of never have I ever. It got later and later until all of us one by one fell asleep, excitedly anticipating our days in Xian.
