Location: Le Carpio and Santa Ana
After our first nights with our homestay families, we all reconvened at Ana's house in the morning before heading to Le Carpio. Everyone seemed very happy with their families and it was definitely nice to stay in a home after weeks in hotels. Once we got to Le Carpio, we walked around with Gail to get a better feel for the area. The amount of poverty was shocking to all of us. However, the locals were all surprisingly friendly. We split into teams, half of us delivering bunk beds and half of us playing with children at the day care center, all of whom had tons of energy. We all felt very appreciated for the work we did there. After returning to Santa Ana and having dinner with our homestays, we all went to Ana's house for some Salsa lessons and to celebrate Charlie's 18th birthday. We all had fun learning how to dance and we ended the night with some delicious birthday cake.
